A Noteworthy Case Study of Residential Foundation Performance on Expansive Soils
Abstract
From 2002 to 2005, forty-five single family homes were built as part of a residential development in Erie, Colorado. A number of the homes were subsequently affected by foundation and slab heave, which triggered many investigations and engineering studies. Beginning in 2007, a decision was made to repair all of the homes in the subdivision, at a cost in excess of the original value of the residences, using analyses, means, and methods not previously applied on such a scale. Lawsuits were filed by the insurance company for the builder/developer in an effort to recover the cost of those repairs. Ten years having elapsed since the case was settled, the CAGE Fall Seminar for 2019 will provide a detailed factual presentation of this interesting technical and legal case history.

CAGE Write Right Seminar
CAGE is bring the Write Right Seminar back to the Denver area on February 6.
BCI designed Write Right for the technical and nontechnical personnel of civil-engineering firms, geotechnical-engineering firms, environmental consultancies, construction-materials engineering and testing (CoMET) consultancies, and other nontechnical personnel who are involved in project management, write or edit proposals or reports, communicate with clients, or have other responsibilities they will be able to perform more effectively with a better grasp of basic writing skills.
